How to Get Access
Rules
- The Pattern is shared and explored by all players at the same time
- The first person to clear an obstacle will get the reward
- All players have the option of creating new paths Maze Pieces and following Maze Piece paths laid out by other players
How to Play
- Each player starts on an existing Maze Piece in The Pattern
- Moving to a clear, adjacent Maze Piece to the north, south, east, or west of the player costs 1 movement point
- Maze Pieces will be occasionally blocked by icons of items in the middle of the piece
- To move onto the blocked Maze Piece, the player must have the item in Storage
- Moving onto blocked Maze Pieces will remove the item in Storage and a reward item will be sent in Incoming
- New Maze Pieces can only be placed in adjacent empty tiles if they fit the orientation of the adjoining Maze Pieces next to the tile
Movement Points
- Are used to move from one Maze Piece to another
- Are gained by rolling dice:
- Movement points are calculated by multiplying die roll by 5
- Rolling a die to gain movement points consumes the dice but the Plastic is salvageable
- Additional dice rolls do not count when the player has over 100 movement points
- Can also be gained from a Wand of Wonder
Pattern Shop
- Obtained by placing a Maze Piece (rare)
- Is an exchange shop inside of the Pattern

History
- The Pattern (then known as The Maze) was created by That Guy Ben on 11 May 2006. In his own words, as posted at the City Hall at 01:01:21pm :
- rather than sleeping, I seem to have coded something insane. it's not quite complete, but it's complete enough to get people excited. it's a maze. a maze that you build! with "Maze Piece" items. currently, the "Maze Piece" is only available from Small Locked Chests, however I will probably scatter them in other odd places, like Rainbow-Dyed Eggs. um... the rest is a game of Rock-Paper-Scissors... overcoming an obstacle in the maze earns you a treasure... you can even get Silver-Dyed Eggs, and some things only available in the maze. there is a downside: mazes are extremely visual. I'm not sure of a good way to make these usable with screen readers, so if you have any ideas, by all means let me know. oh... I dunno how to categorize this maze thing yet... so... the link is on the left, but in an odd, temporary place. anyway, enjoy and, er, if it breaks, let me know, 'cause it might.
- In the 1st edition of The Maze, players had free unrestricted movement over the Maze. Occasionally, players had to overcome obstacles by playing a game of Rock-Paper-Scissors. Players who overcame the obstacle would win a random treasure which went straight into their storage.
- The Maze was changed on 12 May 2006. In the 2nd edition of The Maze, instead of playing Rock-Paper-Scissors, players would occasionally encounter obstacles in the middle of a Maze Piece in the form of an icon of a common craft item. To move onto that blocked Maze Piece, players had to have that particular common craft item in their storage. Again, players who overcame the obstacle would win a random treasure which went straight into their storage.
- The Maze was changed again much later on 12 May 2006. In the 3rd edition of The Maze, the players' free movement was restricted. Each player was given 10 movement points to start with. Moving from one Maze Piece to the next used up 1 movement point. Once the movement points were exhausted, players could no longer move around The Maze. For more information, see above.
- On 17 May 2006, after this post That Guy Ben changed the name to The Pattern and added backstory :
- one in seven maze pieces contains the back story on it, if you look at it.
- I will soon be fashioning a unique item for the people whose story bits I used, even if they didn't expect it:
- Saberclaw, hecklee, Fexar and Rainribbon
