Pets on Psypets can be picky little critters but don't worry, keeping them happy is not impossible. Only in the first week after joining PsyPets will you be able to see the exact stats for hunger, comfort, love and esteem. However, you will still be given the general moods and stats of the pet such as if the pet is sad or hungry.

Basic needs
A Psypet has 5 needs: Tiredness, Hunger, Comfort, Love and Esteem. Unless all needs are met to at least ... level the pet will not gain experience.
This pet has all it's stats full. They can not go any higher!
The only time you should be worried is if a pet has it's stats fall into the red, which should be easy to spot and easy to take care of. But how do you take care of them?
Tiredness
Pets that are very tired (ex: "Exhausted") will go to bed on their own. If you see a tired pet, you can choose to pet them to bed form the dropdown menu below the pet's name. Pets can not die from tiredness.
To make a pet less tired, feed them Goodberries or Skate. To make them more tired feed them Alcohol such as Rum or Vodka
Hunger
A hungry pet will eat on it's own, choosing edible things from unlocked rooms of the house at random. Be sure to remove anything smaller than a light meal or that happens to be edible and expensive from your house immediate to keep your pets well fed!
All pets regardless of size get the same food hours from food according to Experimental's Feeding Tests. Choose light meals or full meals for your pets. Anything marked as "too much" will go to waste and not keep your pets fed for extra time.
You can see how much food an item is worth by clicking the item or holding your mouse over it if you have Beginner mode turned on.
"Hungry" is 6 hours before the pet's food store drains completely. The exact values and percentages for other needs is not necessarily the same, but all work in the same way, using percents when the need is well met and exact values when the need is not being met. Full is 76% or more full and stuffed is 90% or more full.
Your pets can die from starvation. Be sure to keep at least two light meals or one full meal per pet in an unlocked room of the house at all times.
Comfort
Comfort is gained by having nice things in your house for your pets to lounge on, mainly pillows. If this is in the red, go buy some pillows from The Marketplace and things should return to normal quickly. White Pillows and Chinese Lanterns work nicely.
The more pets you have and the higher their levels are, the more comfort items you will need, so be sure to buy extra now and then. Pets can not die from lack of comfort.
Love
Just like in the real world, pets need love too. Few items make them feel loved, but there are easy ways to make a pet who is "whining at you" start "nuzzling you".
- Find a toy and play with your pet every hour. Windup Woof is inexpensive and very popular.
- Feed your pets sweet foods you made at home. Caramel Squares, Red Taffy, Purple Taffy, Green Taffy and Swirled Jelly are good choices.
- Alcohol can make pets feel more loved, though it also makes them very sleepy and gets expensive.
- A few rare items add love (e.g. Iridescent Cup), but most are too expensive. Just play with your pets often and feed them yourself and things will be OK.
- Pets with friendliness can provide some love to other pets.
Pets can not die from lack of love, though they may become Emos. (kidding.)
Esteem
Esteem is really easy to take care of: it's making your pet feel worthwhile by giving them nice things to look at. You don't have to do anything to keep this stat up if you have enough fancy items in your house.
Items that give esteem are items that obvious look nice and do little else. Paintings, vases, statues and other art objects normally give esteem and, once you have a crafter pet (and a few hunters to keep them fed) you will find your pets make these items often out of materials such as clay, paper, and Blue Dye.
Some items when played with also give esteem. Windup Woof and 50cm Katamari are good examples.
Pets can not die from low self-esteem.
Other Pet Statuses
Pregnant
Sometimes pets get pregnant if they are not spayed or neutered (a free service of the Pet Shelter). A pregnant pet eats more and needs more love but is otherwise the same as before.
For more about pet pregnancy, see the pregnancy page.
Werepet
Sometimes adventurous pets that hunt and/or defeat may fight werewolves. Sadly, werewolves carry lycanthropy which may cause your pet to change into a werepet.
On a full moon an afflicted pet will gain the image above, but otherwise they still are your pet. If the pet was pregnant it's still pregnant. It eats the same food and has the same needs as before. The only changes are that werepets are always defeaters, regardless of what they used to be, they are stronger and faster than normal, and actually will lower the safety of your home a little until the full moon is over. If a werepet has babies the babies will not be werepets.
DON'T PANIC! Your pet will turn back to normal if:
- They are fed a Werebane Quaff
- The full moon passes (usually the next day).
Caffeinated
If you feed your pet foods with Caffeine in them, you will see this unique status on your pet. Pets on Caffeine will act as if full on energy even when they aren't! It's not a cure-all or a replacement for sleep, though. For more on this unusual state, read the Caffeine article
Dead
If your pet starves to death or overdoses on Skate the pet may die.
When a pet dies you can choose to let it "move on" and be given an urn of their ashes, or you can use a Favor or a Death's Elixir to bring them back to life. Sadly, resurrecting a pet is very expensive, but if you did everything in this guide you hopefully will never have to! :)
