I am in the midst of creating a system whereby fathers will be available for pregnant pets. Currently, there is no way for pet babies to consider two different graphics. I will start looking at traits to see how it will work out. I know this has been wanted for a while so I will work on it.
???: Is there a live chat box to chat with other players?
There used to be. There used to be a java applet for chat but the server did not allot enough resources to the chat and it shut down the chat multiple times. I could have told the server to not shut down the chat, but the server really needs all of the resources it can get for the game. I'm looking into getting a new server. I haven't forgotten about competition psypets, but I think I'll need a new server about that. But right now I need to worry about paying taxes; I'm moving really soon, so that's real life stuff in addition to the server. But I will have a competition; it's something I want to see. I haven't worked on PvP either.
Gordon: Is there anything you use Pecans for? Is it possible that you could make an item that uses pecans in it.
If you search the enclopedia for Pecan, you will see several items with Pecan in their name. There are items that used pecans. I recently implemented Pecan Oil, and there is something that uses that.
From a new question: Saberclaw wants to know if the potato pets will keep their graphis after reincarnation.
I will need to modify the reincarnation code. The reincarnation graphic does not count as a custom graphic, or does it count as a standard. I'll have to add the potato as an exception. Imps might have the same problem.
Nimbus: Why are regular light sabers profile items and purple light sabers, which contain the amethysts (a profile item), are not?
Right. That's a mistake on my part. There are times when I forget to make items recyclable. There are a lot of things I have to check on items and sometimes I forget. I'll look at all of the light saber items. That being said, some items (the CPU) use a giamond (a profile item) are not profile items and those are intentional.
simpleyetcomplex: You know how you said how you would implement a search feature for the auction house if it had 5+ pages? Well now it has 17 and I find it very hard to look through all of the items.
How silly: someone is auctioning tea leaves and someone is bidding on them. So apparently vicious ruff is submitting everything to the auction house. That is interesting. It would be nice if you could find stuff like you do with the market square. If, by some magic, the auction house keeps being this full, we can worry about some type of structuring. It doesn't matter why, it just matters they are doing it.
TrebleClef84: Congratulations! Psypets is turning 5 next month. Are you planning on doing anything special like a special background like you did for New Year's?
I don't know. I think it would be interesting to see what people would like to do for the birthday. In the past I have done little to nothing. Psypets 5th birthday. There is also a badge which exists for people who have been on psypets 5+ years. I'm sure the people who have been here 4 years have noticed this. So this badge will finally beable to be gotten because psypets will be 5 years. I'll start a thread and see what ideas people have for that. The background like the thing for New Year's would be fun, I could do that. I kind of forgot that I did that. It's now a scheduled thing that psypets will do automatically every year, so I don't have to think about that. But if other people have fun ideas, like making a cake or something, we could do that.
Pink Pearls: How about once a day you may give your pets a job that someone else is employing? They would pay your pet. The action would be part of an hourly action. The projects would be add-ons.
This circulated a long time ago, hired pets for add-ons. I'm not entirely sure how I'd feel about that. Coding isn't the problem. For hourly activities, there isn't a way to control what they do. I'm worried about people using this to build up their alt accounts. People can't control what their pets do. It lets people have pets be more efficient than they currently are and I don't know how that will affect things. It is fun and I can definitely see why people want to do this, but I'm not sure how to do this without exploitation and its effect on the economy.

A kind of nut. Like Pecan pie. Maybe it's an accent thing. But Rika was born in California; my accent isn't that bad.
elwingelfje: Hey Ben, I don't worry that Project Wonderful does our ads now, but there are some with very bad graphics. For example, the one "Love me, don't eat me" pledged to be read for 30 days. I suppose you have no way of choosing which ads you get.
Actually, I do. I can go in and stop ads. It wouldn't be very nice; the point is to be assured a place to put stuff up after they bid for it. If it's bad and they don't get clicks, it's not my fault. The only graphics I would stop is borderline porn or above. Dreamhost doesn't allow me hosting that stuff so I have to err on caution. But basically I let anyone post; I think it's stupid, too. But they're paying for the space so I'm happy with that.
Pink Pearls: We should be able to have baby pets that look similar to what they would look like when they're different but slightly different. Then your pet could grow up. A pet would be an egg from 1-5, grow up 5-10...
The thing about this is, there are over 100 pet graphics and I would have to make those stages for all of those pets for every single one. I don't know how many there are. I'm probably sure there are 150+. Just for that I'm saying no. And there is a slight (maybe not) problem for custom graphics where they would not have changed graphics. I could ask the game to just scale the pet smaller but I'm sure we'd like for there to be more changes (pets eyes get larger, frogs become tadpoles). I didn't draw a lot of the pet graphics; Eileen did. So I would have to bug Eileen: "I know that know you're working and not in college when you did all of these doodles, but maybe you have time to draw 100 tiny pet graphics for me." I don't think she'd be up for it.
Wow that's it. I thought that there would be more questions if I announced it earlier, but I guess not. PvP is in the same state it was last week. I will give people new spells for the shrine for free to beta test. But I've been worrying more about the economy. Pets now have fathers and all of that new stuff. I will try to work on PvP next week, but who knows.
